Formal Wear Twist

Blazer: Forever 21 / Belt: Zara / Jeans: Joes / Clutch: Express / Shoes: Steve Madden

Formal wear doesn’t always mean wearing a dress… right?
It is funny how people freak out when they read the word “formal” on the etiquette section of their invitation. I actually love the word because to me, it means making it interesting and presentable for the occasion. Why wear a dress every time you see the word FORMAL? Let’s be honest ladies, we take a tremendous amount of time to find the perfect little dress to wear it once… for 2 or 3 hours… and then that’s it. After the very expected event we will just hide it behind our closet, isn’t that a waste of time and money? I have been there but I must say I have learned how to buy pieces I can mix and match for any type of occasion. I always take Olivia Palermo as an example!
I believe it also depends on the culture – we as mexicans like to take everything over the top and although it is fun to dress extremely nice for cocktails or weddings, you can also learn how to play with accessories and transform something casual into formal.
Of course I wouldn’t wear this look for a wedding but a formal dinner will work absolutely just fine.

Hey WA!

Blazer: H&M / Sweater: Quinn / Jeans: AG Jeans / Shoes: Zara / Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
This weekend was one of the best. Having a getaway weekend is always a good idea – even if it’s only a few hours away, like Washington DC. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. You know when you are so focus in something that suddenly when you escape for a tiny bit you realize it was a solo-time you actually needed? That is exactly how it was.
Washington is a small town full of diversity, breath-taking monuments and museums, and extremely clean streets. It was a totally getaway from my beloved New York and I’m so happy I had the chance to visit and share it with my friends.
It is always a good idea to getaway, clear your mind, learn about culture, smile, and of course, dress for the occasion!

New hair, new home, new life – time to get back to business.
Starting over is always exciting. When I say exciting I mean overwhelming, stressful, courageous, happy, emotional, anxious, and many more I can’t even describe. It is incredible how many different feelings collide in one person during a short amount of time. Making a transition from one lifestyle to another is hard but is about making a goal into reality – years of work giving results to an amazing accomplished goal.
Seems surreal when everything happens when you least expect it but when it happens there is no time to loose, no fears to have. One moment, one opportunity that you have to take or it may fade away – so be strong, give it your best smile and take that step forward that is going to mark the beginning of the life you have imagined.
Time to dress for it!

As I always say: It’s not about the brand, it’s not about the price, but it’s about the quality and uniqueness. I’m always searching for different brands or designers – any piece or accessory that has a unique touch will catch my eye, and in this case I discovered Serendipia Accesorios.
From my home country Mexico, Serendipia brings bohemian/feminine collections to women of all ages and taste. Thank God for international shipping because now this gorgeous braided gold necklace with pearl details is mine! Check out their Facebook or Instagram accounts to see the latest collections.

Yes, I do believe in the power of a good accessory. Today’s outfit proves how a simple crop tee with the right amount of accessories can be the perfect spring outfit… including the pastel colors!

Switch it: Want to look more casual? Dare to wear this tee and skirt with an oversized denim jacket and wedge booties like me in SXSW!

I love how the weather starts changing from humid and hot to windy and fresh. To wear a formal-double layer skirt simply throw on a white T-shirt and a blazer on top. Since the print in the blazer is very eye-catching, I wanted to add a simple black belt to keep it simple instead of adding chunky accessories. Sometimes it is just about one statement piece.

The transition of seasons is the best. For many people it is all about buying a new wardrobe, but for me it is about experimenting. Mixing summer and winter pieces to create neutral looks for the unexpected temperature changes is what I enjoy the most. This outfit is a good example – black trousers are one of my favorite pieces since they’re not tight yet give a flattering silhouette to the body because of their high waist. I wear them either for work or for a night out. Also, this cold season is all about anything oversized! I love blazers and chunky sweaters, and this royal blue blazer completes the look by making it a bit more fun and dramatic.

Denim On Denim

Blazer: Forever XXI / Shirt: Calvin Klein / Shorts: American Eagle / Booties: Betsey Johnson / Clutch: Zimmermann / Necklace: Express

After spending another summer away from home I realized how much I still have to learn and to live. Like everything in life there were ups and downs but the experience working, and the people I met, are the priceless rewards that made everything worth it. Now that I’m back and ready to start my last semester in college it’s time to keep up the hard work and find street style inspiration at home.

Today’s outfit is for the CollegeFashionista + American Eagle contest (VOTE HERE). My favorite piece of denim has to be my oversized denim shirt but since it wasn’t enough I also added my mini denim shorts. I love loose clothes and the way I can mix them with sophisticated pieces like this blazer, making the look more presentable. I might have brought back a little taste of urban style from New York, so stay tuned for more Street Styler wardrobe mixes.
